ONLY 15 UNIVERSITY APPLICATION PREFERENCES REMAIN: HOW SHOULD GRADE 12 STUDENTS MAKE THEIR CHOICES TO AVOID MISSING FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES?

Người đăng: Tohoku Sông Đà Công ty cổ phần - 23/06/2026

Starting from 2026, the Ministry of Education and Training has stipulated that candidates may register a maximum of 15 university admission preferences. This significant change requires students to develop a clearer strategy when selecting their majors and universities, rather than submitting a large number of applications as in previous years.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, most candidates are admitted through their top-priority preferences. The admission rate from the 10th preference onwards is very low, indicating that choosing the right major and the right institution is more important than simply registering as many preferences as possible.

STEP 1: UNDERSTAND YOUR ABILITIES AND PERSONAL GOALS

Before arranging their university preferences, students should ask themselves several important questions:

  • Which field am I genuinely interested in?

  • Which academic disciplines best match my abilities?

  • Do I want to work in Vietnam or abroad after graduation?

  • Does my family's financial situation support my chosen educational pathway?

Many students today choose their majors based on trends or the expectations of others without fully understanding their own strengths and interests. This can result in studying a field they do not enjoy, losing motivation, and changing direction during their studies.

STEP 2: DIVIDE YOUR 15 PREFERENCES INTO THREE GROUPS

Admissions experts recommend dividing university preferences into three categories to maximise the chances of admission. (Tin Tức 24H)

Group 1: Dream Choices

These are the universities or majors that students most desire to attend, with admission scores typically higher than their expected results.

Students should allocate approximately 3 to 5 preferences to this group.

Group 2: Suitable Choices

These are universities and majors whose admission requirements closely match the student's current academic performance and expected examination results.

This group should make up the largest portion of the application list.

Group 3: Safe Choices

These are universities or majors with admission scores approximately 1 to 2 points lower than the student's expected results.

This group helps ensure that students still have admission opportunities even if their examination results do not meet expectations.

MAKING THE RIGHT CHOICE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN MAKING MANY CHOICES

The limit of 15 university preferences does not reduce students' admission opportunities. Instead, it encourages them to consider their future more carefully and make informed decisions.

The key is not to submit as many applications as possible, but to choose the right major, the right learning environment, and the right career pathway.

Alongside domestic university applications, students should also proactively explore study-abroad opportunities to broaden their educational and career prospects in the future.
