1. History, Educational Philosophy, Teaching Staff and Campus Information

History

Sendagaya Japanese Institute Group (千駄ヶ谷日本語教育研究所グループ) was established in 1975 in the Sendagaya area of Shibuya, Tokyo. Originally founded as an institution dedicated to researching Japanese language teaching methods for international learners, it has grown into one of Japan’s most respected Japanese language education organisations. To date, the group has educated more than 25,000 students from over 60 countries and regions.

In 1976, Sendagaya launched its Japanese Language Teacher Training Programme. Over the decades, the institution has contributed not only to international student education but also to the development of teaching materials, educational methodologies and Japanese language programmes used both within Japan and overseas.

Educational Philosophy

Sendagaya believes that language is more than a tool for communication; it is also a gateway to understanding the culture, society and way of thinking of a country.

Teaching Staff

One of Sendagaya’s strengths is its team of highly experienced instructors, particularly in the fields of university and graduate school preparation.

In addition to classroom teaching, instructors closely monitor students’ academic progress, provide guidance on further education opportunities and help students develop study plans suited to their individual goals. As a long-established teacher training institution, Sendagaya continuously invests in maintaining and improving the professional standards of its teaching staff.
