HOW TO AVOID LOSING MONEY WHEN SHOPPING ONLINE IN JAPAN

Người đăng: Tohoku Sông Đà Công ty cổ phần - 22/06/2026

Going to Japan? Learning Japanese alone is not enough.

Recently, students of Tohoku Song Da participated in a life skills seminar conducted directly by the company's instructors. Having spent many years living, studying, and working in Japan, the teachers shared practical knowledge and real-life experiences that are highly relevant to the daily lives of Vietnamese international students and workers in Japan.

One of the topics that attracted the most attention was online shopping and how to avoid increasingly common online scams.

In Vietnam, online shopping has become a normal part of everyday life thanks to the convenience of major e-commerce platforms and relatively secure payment systems. However, when moving to Japan, applying the same shopping habits without sufficient knowledge and experience can leave individuals vulnerable to fraud.

During the session, the instructors shared several real-life situations that Vietnamese students and workers have encountered in Japan, including:

  • Purchasing goods from fake websites.

  • Making advance payments but never receiving the products.

  • Being tempted by products offered at prices significantly below market value.

  • Having personal information or payment account details stolen.

  • Falling victim to fraudulent promotional links, emails, or messages pretending to be from delivery companies.

  • Being approached by organised scam groups through social media platforms to sell products, collect deposits, or conduct non-transparent transactions.

The instructors particularly emphasised that online shopping in Japan does not always take place through centrally managed e-commerce platforms, as many people in Vietnam may be accustomed to. A considerable number of transactions are conducted directly through Facebook, community groups, or private classified advertisement websites.

For this reason, anyone lacking experience in verifying sellers, checking product origins, or using secure payment methods can easily become a target for fraudsters. In many cases, once money has been transferred to a scammer, recovering it can be extremely difficult, or even impossible, without sufficient evidence and transaction records.

Tohoku Song Da believes that preparing students for Japan involves much more than helping them pass Japanese language examinations or job interviews. The company is committed to equipping students with practical knowledge about daily life, financial management, communication, culture, legal awareness, and personal safety so that they can begin their new lives in Japan with greater confidence.

Many students commented that the seminar was particularly valuable because the topics discussed were situations that could arise at any time in everyday life. Learning from teachers who have spent many years living and working in Japan provided them with realistic insights and helped them become more proactive in protecting themselves.
